Is keeping your PC to perform to its full extent always hustle for you?

We've all experienced how aggravating it is to have our computers run slowly. We become annoyed and feel like we're wasting our time in today's high-tech, the fast-paced world if we have to wait more than a few seconds for things on our computers to load.

If your computer is slower than it should be, there are several things you can do to help it operate quicker. Whether you use a Mac or a PC.

Today we will explore each one of them and by the end of this article you will become an expert on how to keep your PC Running in any given scenario.

So without any further a due let's get started

Tip 1: Get Rid Of Those Background Apps

One of the primary reasons why computers are slower is because of this. Many computers run apps in the background automatically, which consumes memory and slows down your computer. While certain applications should run automatically, such as antivirus and firewall software, you can close others (such as iTunes or Microsoft Office) until you need them. This will help you in getting that extra free memory necessary for your pc to run smoothly.

Tip 2: Uninstall Unnecessary Software Programs

Another very common reason behind this issue tends to be all the unnecessary software programs installed on your system.  So we recommend you to uninstall them as this will help your system to recover some extra space while helping your system to run smoothly.

Uninstall using the Settings page

Step 1: Go to Start and select Settings.

Step 2: Now select the Apps option and then go to Apps & features.

Step 3: Now simply select the app you want to uninstall, and then select Uninstall.

After this, the software should begin the uninstallation process. After the process is complete, make sure to restart your system once after you have successfully uninstalled the program.

Uninstall using Control Panel

Step 1: Type Control Panel into the taskbar's search box and choose it from the results.

Step 2: Now select the Programs option and then select Programs and Features.

Step 3: Now simply select Uninstall or Uninstall/Change by pressing and holding (or right-clicking) on the software you wish to uninstall.

Then simply follow the on-screen instructions, and you should be good to go.

Tip 3: Delete any Automatically Generated Temporary Files

Lack of storage space or extraneous software operating in the background can also make your system laggy and glitchy. One method you can use to avoid your system slowing down is to erase the temporary files that are produced automatically each time you log in to your system. As this will undoubtedly improve the overall speed of your system.

There are three ways to delete these temp files,  we have provided you with all of these three methods below.

Deleting All temp files

Step 1: Press Windows key + R to open the Run command. Then type “temp” in the search field and press OK.

Step 2: Now, select all temp files using ctrl + A and then press delete.

Deleting local temp files

Step 1: Press Windows key + R  to open the Run command. Then type “%temp%” in the search field and press OK.

Step 2: Now, select all local temp files using ctrl + A and then press delete.

Deleting local temp files using Prefetch:

Step 1: Press Windows key + R  to open the Run command. Then type “Prefetch” in the search field and press OK.

Step 2: Now, select all prefetch files using ctrl + A and then press delete.

Last but not least, empty the recycle bin of all files.  Now all temporary files have been successfully removed.

Tip 4: Disable all Unnecessary Startups in Task Manager

The more applications you have installed on your computer, the longer it may appear that Windows is taking to start up. Many apps add themselves to the list of programs that start when your computer boots up, and this list may get rather extensive in terms of your system's performance. To solve this, you may need to disable all these unnecessary programs from getting automatically started as your system boots up.

Here are some easy steps to follow:

Using Settings

Step 1: Click the Start button and choose Settings, or you can use the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + I to open Settings.

Step 2: Now, once Settings has opened, click on Apps.

Step 3: On the next screen, on the left side, select Startup.

Step 4: Now, on the right, you'll see a list of all application programs that are scheduled to launch when the computer starts up. You can navigate through the list and disable the programs you don't wish to use.

Step 5: Next to each one, you will see the app’s impact on the startup process.

Using Task Manager

Step 1: First, You need to right-click on an empty area on the taskbar and select Task Manager.

Step 2: When Task Manager comes up, click the Startup tab, and look through the list of programs and apps that are enabled to run during startup.

Step 3: Now to stop them from running, either highlight the app and click the Disable button or right-click on one and select Disable from the menu.

Congrats, yay, you have successfully disabled all those unnecessary programs in just few steps. Now you need to restart your system once to stop the services that are already running in background and this should do it. Now let's hop on to the next tip.

Tip 5: Check to see if the system is managing the page file size

The paging file is a section of your hard drive that Windows uses as memory. So making sure that this portion is healthy helps to improve your system's overall performance.  In Windows 11, there's a feature that automatically adjusts the page file size, which might make your PC run much faster.

Here are some simple steps to ensure that automatic page file management is enabled.

Step 1: Select Search from the taskbar, after that type advanced system into the search box, and select View advanced system settings

Step 2: In advanced system settings, select the Advanced tab, then select Settings in the Performance area.

Step 3: Now select the Advanced tab under Performance Options, then Change in the Virtual memory section.

Step 4: Check the option that says "Automatically manage paging file size for all discs." If that's the case, then it's time for you to move on to the next tip.

Step 5: If it isn't, choose it and restart your computer by going to start then to the Power option and then finally Restart.

Tip 6: Pause OneDrive syncing

OneDrive lets you sync files and folders on your computer to the cloud. This allows you to access your files from anywhere. However, synchronizing such files consumes a lot of bandwidth. This, in turn, might have a detrimental impact on the performance of your system. To be safe, we recommend pausing your OneDrive sync, since this may help you reclaim some of your system's valuable processing power, which is vital for your system's smooth performance.

To manually pause the file sync, you simply need to follow these easy steps given below:

Step 1: First, go to your system tray and click the OneDrive cloud icon.

Step 2: Then, by using the More button, you may expand the Pause Syncing menu.

Step 3: Now, you can choose how long you want the file sync to be paused. You can pick between 2 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours.

After this, you should be able to pause your OneDrive sync without any issues.

Tip 7: Upgrade To A Solid-State Drive

It has been observed that the Solid-state drives, or SSDs, have replaced the spinning mechanical hard drives of the past in an increasing number of modern computers. The reason behind this is that the SSDs are far quicker in comparison to the HDDs.

If you're still using one of those old Discs, it's time to upgrade. This will not only help your  Apps to start nearly instantaneously, but also your computer will boot up far faster than it did with your old hard drive. All this while giving you a smooth performance.

Tip 8: Use Drive Defragmentation Tool (For HDD Users)

Files on your hard drive get fragmented over time. This result in your computer or laptop slowing down as it looks for those bits in various areas on your disc.

Optimizing your PC can help you to solve this type of problem and thus allowing your PC to operate smoother and boot up faster than before. To help your computer run quicker, we recommend you to fragment such files using the Windows built-in defragmentation tool.

Here's how you should do it.

Step 1: Open Settings.

Step 2: Click on System.

Step 3: Click on Storage.

Step 4: Under the "More storage settings" section, click the Optimize Drives option.

Step 5: Select the drive that needs defragmentation.

Step 6: Click the Optimize button.

After you've finished the procedures, the software will reorganize the files to make it more accessible the next time they're needed, resulting in considerable speed and performance gains.

Note: Do not use defragmentation tool on SSD as defragging an SSD can result in shorten its life cycle, thus not good.

Tip 9: Switch To High Performance

To optimize resource utilization to its best, Windows offers its users with three distinct power plans (Balanced, Power saving, and High performance). We recommend you to choose the "High performance" option to improve system performance, since it allows the device to use more power and function at a much faster pace.

To do this, simply follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Settings.

Step 2: Click on Power & sleep.

Step 3: Now, under the "Related settings" section, click the Additional power settings option.

Step 4: Click the Show additional plans option (if applicable).

Step 5: Select the High-performance power plan.

Tip 10: Disable Visual Effects

Windows comes packed with many visual effects to add that little tang to user experience. Although these effects can enhance the aesthetic attractiveness of the experience but they do so at the expense of system resources, which can cause computers with older hardware to slow down a little. So we recommend you to  turn off these effects to conserve resources and make your system quicker.

In order to do that simply follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Settings.

Step 2: Click on System.

Step 3: Click on About.

Step 4: Under the "Related settings" section, click the Advanced system settings option from the right pane.

Step 5: Click the Advanced tab.

Step 6: Under the "Performance" section, click the Settings button.

Step 7: Click the Visual Effects tab.

Step 8: Select the Adjust for best performance option to disable all the effects and animations.

Step 9: Click the Apply button.

Step 10: Click the OK button.

After this the visual effects will be disabled, and interacting with items (windows and menus) will seem more responsive once you've completed the instructions.
